Touch — Hair Dryer. Touch explores how a familiar everyday appliance can communicate its function through its physical form. The design is built around three central ideas: movement, control and touch — the relationship between hand, form, movement and airflow.

The form is inspired by the distinctive geometry of a boomerang: an ancient handheld object associated with movement, direction, aerodynamic control, grip and balance. Rather than reproducing it literally, the design translates its sweeping curve and dynamic profile into a contemporary hair dryer. Even at rest, the silhouette suggests an object made to be actively guided.

The same geometry shapes the ergonomics. Instead of a conventional straight handle, the curved grip lets the hand sit naturally within the form, bringing the point of control closer to the centre of the product and creating a stronger sense of balance, control and continuity between hand and device.

The aerodynamic character relates directly to function. A hair dryer directs and controls a flow of air, and the sweeping geometry visually reinforces that idea of controlled movement — giving Touch a recognizable identity next to conventional hair dryer forms.

Material selection was driven by the relationship between the product and the hand. The grip area uses a soft, short-pile textile inspired by microfiber terry fabric, creating a tactile contrast with the smooth, hard outer body. It introduces warmth, softness and comfort to an otherwise technical product, and is intended to make it feel more approachable.

This establishes a clear material hierarchy: where the user touches, softness and tactility; where the product performs, precision and technicality. The textured surface is also intended to offer more friction than a smooth plastic grip — a design intention aimed at secure handling and tactile feedback in a bathroom environment, rather than a tested claim.

The name Touch refers to that physical relationship. The soft grip invites touch, the curved form guides the hand, and the overall geometry communicates movement: touch, control, movement.
